From School Library Journal

Gr 1–4—Featured in this book are photographs of some of the youngest participants of the historical 2017 Women's March. From two sisters holding a poster with quotes from Martin Luther King Jr. to a little boy holding a handwritten sign that reads "Girls should be treated fairly," the visual imagery successfully communicates the energy of the Women's March and similar protests. Many of the photographs are paired with additional quotes from the children, such as words from Maddie, age 14, instructing readers to "Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes." Also interspersed throughout are basic definitions related to the democratic process, including the meanings of democracy, equality, and freedom. A forward from Bob Bland, cochair of the Women's March, and an afterword from Lynda Blackmon Lowery, author of Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom, provide additional context for more mature readers. While this text can provide an unintimidating introduction to political activism for children, young readers may lack the background and perspective to understand the significance of the events and would need this book to be paired with a discussion about the democratic process, peaceful protests, and the status of civil rights throughout history and today. Adults who participated and supported the Women's March or similar events will appreciate the reminder that the positive impacts of political activism reverberate through future generations. VERDICT An inspiring reminder that people of any age can play a role in the quest for social justice. A general addition to nonfiction collections.—Alyssa Annico, Youngstown State University, OH

Review

"The Little Book of Little Activists perfectly captures one of the best parts about the historic Women's March—the kids. They were out in full force that day, and their fierce signs, tiny raised fists, and clear understanding of justice gives me so much hope. I know my son and daughter will never forget that day, and I'm so glad this book exists to document the presence of our tiny beautiful future leaders."—Kate Schatz, New York Times bestselling author of Rad American Women A-Z“Will melt your big ol’ heart.”—Buzzfeed"This book is inspiring and hopeful in all the best ways. The youngest of children need to see adults in action, speaking up for their rights. With this book, they’re reminded that they can do so as well. After all, as Maddie, age 14, tells us on the book’s final spread, we all need to speak the truth, even if our voices shake."—Kirkus"An inspiring reminder that people of any age can play a role in the quest for social justice."—School Library Journal"A magnificent gift for any occasion, and a book every child should have on the bookshelf."—Shelf Awareness"Perusing these pages and reading the empathetic thoughts of children will definitely warm your heart, but more importantly remind you who and what the fight is for: the next generation."--BUSTOne of New York Magazine's "16 Feminist Kids’ Books for Dismantling the Patriarchy""If you're looking to teach your daughters, and sons, about political activism, this is a great introduction."--The Houston Chronicle

Love this book already bought 3 times in the last month after my first buy at a bookstore. Great gift for young parent activists who want to impart good values to their kids.

This book is perfect! It is a compilation of photos and quotes from children that attended the Women's March in January 2017. It goes through issues like equality, democracy, activism and feminism and avoids all political opinions. It sticks to the core issues without turning it into a debate over party lines or presidents. For being a book with such small dimensions, it is full of inspiring and amazing quotes, explanations of key words and photos. I highly recommend it as a book to read to elementary children and up to connect at their levels on these topics and encourage them to be the voice of their generation.

Used to be indoctrination starts at College-University level. Now they're starting them as early as 5 years. Check them out from your local indoctrination library. In one page, it states: "If there is a mess, it's our job to fix it." Good enough, and so on the opposite page, a child is carried aloft on an adult's shoulder with a child holding aloft a sign with nothing in it---just a bunch of scribbles. In one page, it states: "Adults are harder to convince than kids." Exactly right! It is so much easier to convince these kids about what they know nothing about!! After all, adults pay taxes and the vast majority of them still don't believe in the tooth fairy! Then a picture of a really small child who most likely can barely talk is now holding up a sign stating "WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED." ??! On another page, a toddler is holding a sign "I DISSENT" (what could a 5 year old possibly be dissenting about?) then another page states "Fight For Those Who Don't Have A Voice." (which is good...millions of animals are used and horribly abused, but I doubt this book is what it is after.)Now we know what all those Californian gender studies majors are up to. I think books like these are meant for 18-50 yr. old far-left adults...with the mentality of a 5-9 yr old. They even mention feminism. But would books like these point out that females have more rights and "heaps & heaps" more privileges in countries like Canada and the USA? NOooo! Heaven forbid!!This book is a perfect example why Liberalism is a mental illness. Many Americans like to claim that they live in the freest country in this planet, but how free are we really when the very young are being mind controlled even before they're able to actually write?

Disgusting exploitation of children disguised as a children’s book.

Straight up propaganda. The little tikes version of The Communist Manifesto.

Stop using kids for your political agenda. THis should not be sold.

WOW. I can't imagine how this was published. It is terrible, and it encourages kids to resist, campaign, and just be angry. Why not let kids be kids and form their own opinions when they are more mature? Let kids read fun books and enjoy life.

I absolutely love this little book that shares photos of children at the Women's March on Washington, along with quotes from kids and explanations of words such as "feminist" and "democracy". Thanks to the publisher for the review copy! This is an important title for home bookshelves and libraries.
