Great insight into the experience of these 16th century Christians, who were absolute for Christ and for one another, in the face of opposing religious systems teaming up against them. It describes and illustrates their simple faith in Christ and love for the Word of God and for each other, even unto a near certain death. This is a wonderful example what it means to, as Jesus said and still says, "Follow Me!" The outcome, as we see in the book, is a primitive-type of church life, without worldly attachments, but instead a daily living that loves not their soul-life even unto death, both literally and figuratively, according to their joyful acceptance of their heavenly Father's choosing and arrangements. Then the book shows the terribly sad result of what happens when such absoluteness and simplicity is forsaken. Throughout the entire book, I was often brought to tears. Be careful reading this book, unless you are open to having your own life changed by the record of history and by an ever-living Christ.

The many historical personal and communal anecdotes in this book bring to life 16th century religion and society. Amazingly dedicated, inspired, and sacrificial lives give insight to purposeful living. On the other hand, equal in magnitude perverse dedication, inspiration, fearful and hateful adherence to cultural conformity and coercion demonstrate the hell on earth that dominant society imposes on those it labels heretics and live beyond its zeitgeist. This historical pattern seems to repeat itself in every generation. Lessons in perspective, tolerance, perseverance, faith, hope, and charity are available in this book.

This is an excellent book. The best all around, easy to read, compilation of Anabaptist writings with the challenge to look back and learn but move forward with the knowledge we now have. God help us to remain faithful. Thanks Peter

I used an earlier edition of this great text back in 1968 while an undergraduate in Physics. In those days, Vector Algebra and Analysis were left as 'catch-it-as-you-can-and-on-the-fly' in or in between a given math or physics course. And really, that attitude has not changed today: look at any undergrad physics book in elementary mechanics or electromagnetism, and you will see that in many cases, Vector material in an appendix. And when it is addressed in a textbook, e.g., those used in the first two semesters of a typical undergrad sequence in basic calculus-based physics, you wish the God it wasn't. They go on and on about the obvious, give problems that are easy to solve but which do not prepare the student for real-world or real-physics research problems. And if you don't get lost in the cute little pictures and elaborate drawings those books use to 'explain' the concepts, you still wind up with a cursory understanding of Vectors and their importance in Physics, Engineering, and Mathematics.Not so with this text. It gives sufficient theory, insightful examples, plenty of supplementary problems, and very helpful illustrations to drive the point being made home. Truly, a great book.So when I learned Vector Analysis from this text, I carried this book with me for reference and further learning and refreshing myself throughout grad and post grad school, and it never let me down. To this day, there are three old copies on my books shelves, and now I just added this latest second edition copy - just for old times sake. You won't go wrong with this book.

Great refresher on the subject - also includes a brief chapter on tensors. The section on tensors seems to be too brief, and the notation used by the author is a bit different than other references.

I think that you'll really appreciate how well this book is written.

Has excellent practice tests. very clearly explained. a must to complement any school work. Highly recommend for any student who wants to make sure to understand the materials and get extra practice

i have a couple of vector analysis/linear algebra books, but i needed to review some concepts for an electromagnetics course, and I needed to review those concepts FAST, this book is the best there is when you need fast info with several examples. Dont expect it to tell you what it does or how it works, or applications, it just tells you what it is and how to use it, period, no bull, no lengthy descriptions.I strongly recommend this book for anyone who wants to know or review vector concepts including vector differentiation, grad, curl, div, etc....

I had a 1950s edition of the outline and it was my crutch to get through differential geometry. It is still my go to guide whenever I need to freshen up on vector math. I bought this new edition for my brother and it has more examples and problems, but still the same core information.
