If you had to choose one book to read I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this one book. As a voracious reader, I thought I had read enough books re: the subject BUT I was wrong. This is a real eye opener. Dr. Kengor does an excellent job of addressing this topic & definitely applies to the current state of affairs.*** I was not paid to endorse & paid for book myself***

Do You want to know a bit more about the slow, purposeful efforts -- intellectual and social -- that led to the takedown of Traditional Marriage? Do you want to know some of the real, openly-stated reasons for the takedown that preceded DOMA by more than 100 years? Do you want to learn about all the preparatory (and under-handed) work that led to Justice Kennedy's fateful decision?If so, then this book is an excellent resource to begin your education. For those of us who have been pointing out that the destructive impacts of Communism are still with us today, Mr. Kengor explains it more clearly than anyone I've ever read.And the author even shares some interesting historical facts about some of the things inside the closet of Obama's Hawaiian mentor -- and his Communist Card number is the least shocking!! The MSM, of course, couldn't be bothered to investigate any of it, because it would have discredited Obama; Obama, of course, was no dummy, which is why he simply called him "Frank" in his autobiography. Obama is simply standing in a long line of Marxist sympathizers -- or actually Commies -- who have planned and worked for the takedown for a number of generations now. You may normally find reading about 19th-century philosophers tedious, but Kengor keeps it pithy, interesting, and relevant. (He doesn't bog down the reader in philosophical ruminations.)Knowing those who have advocated these recent changes, you'll be able to figure out that changing the nature of marriage isn't the end game. The people who have fought for so long and so hard for the overthrow of America, by overthrowing the Judeo-Christian belief system, are NOT going to be satisfied with their current victory and gains, because "changing marriage" is just one of the means chosen to help them realize their ends.Here's a professor who isn't a boring egghead. I finished the book in days, and you will too.

I love it when really smart people go to a lot of work to "enlighten" me with their writing. Terrific addition to what I've already read about socialism. I recommend this author. I understand socialism now. I don't know it well enough to explain to somebody else. This guy is talented and smart... he is a good "splainer", excellent teacher.

A great historical to present day timeline over the past 100 years of Communist influence on our country. it is truly worth reading. The author explains in detail how the Progressives have damaged our Judeo Christian belief system in America.

As I read TAKEDOWN I was reminded of a sentence from Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's unforgettable 1978 Harvard Commencement Address: "Without any censorship, fashionable trends of thought and ideas in the West are carefully separated from those which are not fashionable;nothing is forbidden, but what is not fashionable will hardly ever find its way into periodicals or books or be heard in colleges." In the wake of the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling -- anticipated, though not yet handed down at the time of publication -- TAKEDOWN will hardly be considered fashionable. (Solzhenitsyn did not say that such things would never appear.) Perhaps our ability to consider and discuss the exhaustive caseDr. Kengor presents will be a good test of whether or not this is a better country than Solzhenitsyn described in 1978.TAKEDOWN takes us through the role cultural Marxists played in helping create the atmosphere in which marriage is considered and defined in the media, colleges and the circles of elite opinion. He traces the development of cultural Marxism that went beyond the largely, but not exclusively,economic writings of Marx and Engels, by their ideological heirs at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Frankfurt in the1920s. Scholars from that Institute brought their doctrines to the United States when they fled Hitler in the 1930s and found a welcoming home onAmerican campuses, most prominently at Columbia University. Dr. Kengor follows the train of their teaching and writings down to very recognizable names today. Again, the documentation in the book is exhaustive, as will not surprise anyone familiar with any of Dr. Kengor's other works.The link between all that is presented and Orbegefell v. Hodges may be highly debatable. That is a debate one might think many of those applauding Orbegefell would like to declare over. But if it is not, if, as the author Colin Wilson once wrote, "In history, no one has the last word,"then one can only hope that everyone will come to the debate as thoroughly and thoughtfully prepared as Dr. Kengor has shown himself to be.Although it must be noted that Dr. Kengor sets no such aim for himself in the book. He writes: Readers will wonder if I am looking to halt the redefinition and transformation, if I am endeavoring to help change the mind of American culture on gay marriage with this book, to which I respond: Are you kidding? America has entered a protracted phase of post-Christian thinking and ethics, a dismal state where individualism and a dictatorship of relativism reign supreme, fostered by a long line of incredibly naive parents who marched their children in wide-eyed cadence through the educational system at costs both financial and moral. Nothing short of a major religious revival will save it. My task with this book is diagnostic: to simply help explain how America slowly but steadily walked to the marriage-family precipice where it now stands.

Marxism is alive and well in the highest levels of U.S. and local governments and obviously in the schools and universities. To fight the enemy, one must first know the enemy. She settled on Condoleezza.Meanwhile, my father prepared for John's birth. He bought a football and several other pieces of sports equipment. I purchased this book on the recommendation of a coworker. I was hesitant to purchase this book as I had mixed feelings of why I was encouraged to read this book but I am so glad I did. Up until this book I did not know much of condelezza's accomplished life or her struggles. This book also gave me a different political perspective on various government programs and concepts. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Ms. Rice's career or her political perspective. Great read!

I have always loved Condoleezza Rice. So I knew that I'd love this book. However, I was totally enthralled by her writing; this book was an easy and natural read. Not a single part was uninteresting. One would expect to discover large events in such an exceptional life, and Ms. Rice's life was filled with such accomplishments. You can understand how her family's support and her personality combined to produce the successful, lovely person she is. Having read and thoroughly enjoyed this book, I intend to read her other books. This was one of those experiences where I savored the reading and was very sorry to reach the end. I'm just a deer in her headlights.

This is an extraordinary book written by a woman I've long admired. CONDOLEEZZA RICE: A MEMOIR OF MY EXTRAORDINARY, ORDINARY FAMILY AND ME won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work for Youth/Teens. But even an old white geezer like me was able to dovetail its messages into my ordinary life and realize that special people are inspirations to be listened to and emulate.Reading for enjoyment is my most important goal. In Dr. Rice's book I heard three important messages; cherish your parents and the heritage they have given you, keep your vision strong and focused, and don't give in to lesser urges that threaten to disrupt your life's journey. I have bumbled through three-quarters of a century skirting the edges of all three.I have followed the career of this beautiful and skilled woman, never failing to be moved by her lifework. Her remarkable rise to be Secretary of State for the United States of America is a story every person, young or old, should honor. Her spirit, willingness to accept any challenge, and ability to overcome obstacles of race, gender, and age are traits unlike any other I've witnessed. I see pride, devotion, and a certain pugnacious attitude towards criticism that has propelled her to the forefront of world leaders.We may never know the true story of her behind-the-scenes comportment. I sensed a certain resistance to interference with her priorities in her writing. I suspect that she voiced opinions that were so strong and well-grounded that opposition was seldom exercised. My grandson and I used this Bible last night to work on his Awana Bible Study. It is such an awesome Bible. I wish I had one for myself. So many pictures, lists and details. Just beautiful. He is so pleased.

All things we need to know in life you will find a answer in the Bible. There is a getting to know Jesus section, asking questions like Why did Jesus have to die? Does Jesus love me? and other questions and answers. Lot time I hear a kid say How do I pray? It's in this Bible also. Wonderful Bible a child should have. Love it.

I absolutely love this Bible! It's such an interactive Bible with so much that will encourage children to read and enjoy it. It's filled with wonderful pictures that will make your child smile. I love the penguins, polar bears and other cute polar animals used throughout - they are adorable and eye-catching! The translation used for this Bible is the NIV which makes it easier for children to read, enjoy and understand.I also like that the text is easy on the eyes to read and not too small. I had no trouble reading the text and I can't read really small text any longer. I think this is a huge plus and children don't really like small text either.One of my favorite things are the "Word to Treasure" squares throughout the Bible that pick special Scriptures from the pages you're on. This would be a good way to encourage children to memorize Scriptures. They are not long passages so they would be easy for a child to memorize.Another favorite part of this Bible are the full page color pictures that ask questions or give your child more information about a topic. For instance, there is on on Scriptures to look up if you're feeling a certain way and another one about Getting To Know Jesus and His Life. These put into one page important information that your child can refer to. There are full color maps in the back as well so that they can look to see where the certain stories are taking place or see where Jesus was.This is such a wonderful Bible and I love it! I think a child would love it, too! I've really enjoyed going through it and reading it and I love all the information inside. The recipes are great and uniquely detailed. However, there are very few photos and the recipes call for a tremendous amount of oil. The first time we cook a recipe, we start out cutting the recommended amount of oil in half.That said, we have nevertheless made great use of it. We have cooked 13 if the recipes within three months. Every single one was a winner. You can’t say that about many cookbooks.

Long ago I had this in hardcover, and a housemate left it on the stove and turned an electric burner on under it! Drama ensued, but everything turned out alright -- except the book was ruined and she said (years ago mind you) she couldn't find a replacement copy.Get this. It's delightful. I really don't enjoy the tone of the author, who is colonial as all get out, but the recipes and techniques are fantastic.Worth it just for the wonton soup recipe. You will become highly suspect of most wontons after this, lol.We used to have wonton parties and I'd teach my friends to make them, and put them up in freezer bags. So good!

Really good spicy recipes. Includes detailed instructions on making various spicy sauces, which you could combine with any meat or veggies you like or have around the kitchen. Get a cooking shovel as recommended in the book, it's a great tool.

Man, I love this book. The recipies are kinda long, but it's easy enough to follow. My fav in the book - 'Pock Marked Ma's Bean Curd'. The one recipie that opened my eyes to the fact tofu can be really, really tastey when the dish is well spiced and given the time to absorb the flavors around it (I think its even better and hotter the next day.)The hot and sour soup is also excellent -- more like a stew and completely unlike anything I've had in a run of the mill 'chinese food' place.My sister picked this book up first and one thing she regularly altered was cutting the oil in the recipies, about in half in most instances. Also, for recipies that ask for ground pork, grinding pork loin steaks (fat trimmed) gets you excellent flavor but less fat.When a recipie asks for fresh water chestnuts, I'd suggest not using canned. The flavor is completely different. Fresh jicima might be a better substitute if you can't get fresh water chestnuts.

One of the few cookbooks I've read cover to cover. I found this cookbook after cooking an eggplant dish from another Szechwan cookbook, Land of Plenty by Fuchsia Dunlop, that I found underseasoned for Szechwan cuisine. This sent me on a search for a Szechwan cookbook with more robust recipes. That's when I found Mrs. Chiang's Szechwan Cookbook. The first recipe I tried was Chicken and Cucumbers because I had a cucumber that I needed to use. Nothing wimpy about this recipe: 10 garlic cloves and 4 hot red peppers. Great depth of flavor. I am going to be trying a lot of recipes in this book.

If you love to cook and like Chinese-Szechwanese food, you will love this book.There is great clarity in the writing and instructions, and the story behind the book and Mrs. Chiang are a joy to read.There has not been a single recipe I did not enjoy - so far I have made about 1/3 of the recipes listed. Some are just excellent and addictive - like Bon Bon Chicken, Pork in fish style, Anise Chicken. Be prepared to make lots of trips to your (Asian) store, as you will be going through a LOT of star anise, szechwan peppers, ginger, scallions, garlic, etc.. And try to find a good source of pork.Hard to believe it has been out of print for so long. I have Dunlop's book as well, which is very good, but a bit more convoluted. I would recommend this book first, then Dunlops Land of Plenty.

I am an Executive Chef with an extensive collection of cookbooks, and this is by far by favorite. This is the single best work on the subject I have ever read. There is no finer Chinese cookbook available. A little dated, perhaps, but still invaluable. I enjoyed this one so much I read it novel-like from cover to cover and refer to it frequently. I can't say enough good about this book.

I do a great deal of Chinese cooking and this cookbook has some of the more authentic recipes found in Westernized cookbooks. With the online and increasing local availability of true Chinese ingredients and sauces really great, close to authentic Chinese cooking can be done at home - and if you do you should have this cookbook. My reference to authentic is from trips to SE Asia.

Trina Schart Hyman (1939 - 2004) received one Caldecott Medal and three Caldecott Honors during her distinguished career. From the age of four she knew that she would become an illustrator. I had read others reviews and I am not one to shy away from traditional versions of fairy tales. In fact, I prefer them. But, the addition of the gun and the description of "slashing" was a bit too much for me to read to my preschool class. I did see it is suggested for 5 and up. I would probably say 7 or 8. The illustrations were beautiful, but it was not very well written for keep a child's interest regardless of age. I will have to keep l looking for a good one.

A bautiful book. note, its a longer tale and more appropriate for 5 and older. Beautiful pictures and sticks true to the original storyline. If you don't mind the sight of a hunter with a gun then you will be ok with this book.

The art work is better than most. There is several non-traditional elements to this version. IE the woodsman calls the wolf "sinner"Before he dispatches him and cuts out granny and Lil' hood... The inclusion of the word evokes a moral tone and seems like a non-sequitur. IT IS a morality tale but the wolfs morality should be static, and needs to be static, to dialogue about Little red's trail obedience. Weither he "sins" (missing the mark in archery) or not he is a WOLF who eats red meat, it's his nature. SEE the title 'little red riding hood and the sweet little wolf'

I'm a nanny. I got this for my kids for Halloween. I remember reading an edition almost exactly like this one when I was little! Its the perfect amount of "scary" for my kids, but might not be a great fit for all young children, depending on their sensitivity. This is the traditional tale of the wolf eating the grandmother and the girl and the huntsman cutting them out of his belly, complete with pictures. It was fine for us, but I know some families for whom this would have been "too much too soon."

Parents vary on the version of Red Riding Hood they want to share with their kids. So, let me say up front, I wanted the one where the grandma gets eaten (not hides in the closet); where Red Riding Hood gets eaten (not rescued at the very last minute) and where the wolf gets killed (not runs away). If this is NOT for you, pick another version. Personally, I get mad when grandma hides in the closet (what....and doesn't jump out to intervene between her granddaughter and a ravenous wolf? She's either deaf or heartless......) I think Red Riding Hood needs to get eaten (natural consequences are great learning lessons.) And unless the wolf is killed and hauled off by the woodsman to be hung on his door, how do you know for SURE that he'll never, ever, ever return? My daughter is 3 and this is one of her very favorite bedtime stories. The illustrations by Trina Schart Hyman are lovely, with little homages to her Mimi hid within.

Beautifully illustrated classic story book! My 2.5 year old daughter loves it. I like throwing extra commentary of what can happen to a young girl if she does not obey mommy's directions! LOL

I read through the reviews and product details and was led to believe that this would be the book and disc. We only received the disc. I can't figure out where to get the book now. We love the story and wish we had the book as well. I would love to rate this item higher, but the misleading information prevents me from doing so. If you plan on purchasing the book and read along disc. This item is not that.

Don't talk to strangers unless you want very bad things to happen.This is the fairytale as it was told to me as a child. The author/illustrator tells it like it is and doesn't sugar coat it. When i was in elementary school i fell in love with her illustrations in Snow White, so much so that i checked the book out of the library often. One day it was checked out by someone who never brought it back. I found & bought that book decades later and relived my fascination with the beautiful, dark pictures which mirrored the rendition of the fairytale. I am thrilled to find other tales illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman and happy to add this one to my collection.

About the Author

Robert McCloskey (1914-2003) wrote and illustrated some of the most honored and enduring children's books ever published. Classic children's book and lovely story that takes you through Boston. We bought this book as a gift for the children of a couple of our out of town friends.

I am now 78 , when I was three or four my mother, a teacher loved it, and bought and read it to me. Now we were from Boston so it kind of fit. When I was a little older I read it to myself several times. The same for my younger sister. Now a friend of mine ' s granddaughter will be getting this 75th aniversary copy with the map and cd for her 5th birthday. She loves books, especially her"nite nite" books and I can not wait to see her reaction, and hear about yours. A kind traffic cop, and a mother duck, and her babies trying to walk across traffic to get to the famous Public Gardens, how can you go wrong? Hope you love it.

A delightful introduction to duck behavior from egg to adult.Anyone who lives in or wants to visit Boston will appreciate the 1940s vision of ducks living between the Charles River and the Boston Public Gardens. McCloskey was an author/illustrator who brought a special gentleness and humor to his work for children. Every child and parent should read his books again and again: Make Way For Ducklings, Blueberries for Sal, A Time of Wonder, One Morning in Maine, are books that build appreciation for nature and human relationships.I had a bizarre experience of driving in northeastern Massachusetts one summer day when I had to stop on a road near a lake to let a family of ducks cross. Of course, I thought of Make Way for Ducklings. That is not all that unusual where ducks spend their summers. What happened next was that NPR sadly announced the death of Robert McCloskey. I am not superstitious, however that was one amazing, touching coincidence.

"Make Way for Ducklings" should be gifted to every baby by its fairy godparents. I remember having it read to me when I was little and the clothes & cars of the illustrations were contemporary. I read it to my sons, who loved the story of Mr and Mrs Mallard---that careful and competent mother of eight---and the compassionate policemen who stopped traffic right by the Boston Commons. I ordered a copy from Amazon a few weeks ago for my great-granddaughter, loving it just as much as ever.Why does the book---the story and the illustrations---hold up so well over so many years and generations? The story tells of a kindly world, such as would make a child feel secure, warm, and happy: the loving parent ducks, the island in the lake of the great park where the swanboats still glide, and the police who care enough about little ones to stop traffic so Mrs Duck can lead her small family across the streets and into their new home in the park. The story tells also about a city, Boston, with the old squares, the state house, details from which the reader can take off with more stories for the little ones nestled close. And the illustrations in brown crayon (I think) are magical, individuating the ducklings, catching the quirkiness of the good citizens of Boston, bringing to our today the life of one spring day long long ago.May you and your next generations delight in "Make Way for Ducklings" too!

This book is awesome and I am so glad I bought it for my nephew. Everyone should have an appreciation for ducks. The beautiful illustrations and lovely story line are unforgettable. Note, the illustrations are monochrome, with is less exciting to some children who prefer colors, but the artwork is stunning and inspiring to anyone who can appreciate it. My little nephew and niece love this book.

I'm 58 and fondly remember growing up in Mass and going to Boston Common to ride swan boats and feed ducks every summer. I have continued this tradition with my daughter every year when we visit as part of our ritual. This book was a favorite classic from my childhood, was given to my daughter as a gift when she was a baby. We continue to pass along this classic to friends as a baby gift.

Impossible to adequately praise this classic. No child should be without this in their library.

Super cute book for kids about boston. I love it, my daughter loves it, and my son will love it too when he is older. If you love Boston and have kids, you need this book. EVEN if you DON'T have kids, I think you will love this book

This version of one of the most fun and heartwarming children's books comes with a great map. I saw it in a local children's bookstore and had to have it for my home! It is beautifully illustrated (both the book and the map). Definitely worth the extra investment if you love the book, Boston, or maps!
