I just got this coloring book today, a few months before Halloween, but I don't let that stop me! Finally a Halloween witch that I think is done to what I would draw if I could draw. The pictures are nice and some are kinda funny and I am sure that I will enjoy coloring.

I'll start off by saying that this book was so intriguing, and emotional, and intense. Anyone who is able to think back to their experience during a rough time, like World War 2, and relive that by writing in down is very brave, and by doing this, provides insight as to what humanity is capable of. This book not only reveals the dark side of humanity (war soldiers and leaders who destroy cities and lives), but also a brighter side (shown in all the people who showed Szpilman kindness during his journey). Szpilman did a fantastic job of going in depth, and revealing what lives were like during the war, which was most likely his reason for writing it. Every chapter provided new knowledge to the reader, and the book was interesting throughout every single page. Szpilman did a great job of describing all of the people and places in the book, which made the story seem even more real.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in anything dealing with global conflict in the 20th century. I've read several memoirs about WW2, and this one was one of my favorites. Szpilman really makes you stop and consider how lucky you are, being able to live without fearing for your life every day. It also makes you evaluate how much the war changed things- not politically or economically, but how it altered the lives of everyday people. I also found the Extracts from the Diary of Captain Wilm Hosenfield, and the epilogue written by Wolf Biermann to be really interesting, and add even more insight to the war, from different perspectives. Overall, I loved the book. I have no complaints, and would recommend it to almost anybody.

A fan of the movie, I had to grab this ebook when I saw it was on sale for $1.99. While the movie is excellent, as usual, the book is even better. It was difficult to read, but hard to put down. The subject matter is intense, but necessary. Much of the book covers Szpilman's life in the Warsaw ghetto. We see what life was like living trapped inside the ghetto, with freedoms slowly being stripped away and the Jewish population becoming increasingly nervous at the uncertainties that lie ahead.Szpilman finds himself alone and fighting for his life by hiding in various places in Warsaw, often in dangerously close approximation to the Nazi militia. What I find so compelling is the fact that, instead of being bitter and crying out against those who killed most everyone he knew and loved, Szpilman pays tribute to the German officer who discovered his hiding place, and, instead of killing him on the spot, coaxed Szpilman from the brink of death by bringing him food and a warm coat, as well as news of the German Nazi's impending fall from power.Such a powerful story! If you enjoyed the film, you'll enjoy the book.

I've read many books about the Holocaust and living conditions during World War II, but this one is something different. While it is an actual account of one man's experience in the Warsaw ghettos and hiding from the Germans, it is written in a way that flows, is easy to read, and is captivating as you learn how brutal and dangerous life was during the war. The author had an uncanny knack for survival despite the horrors surrounding him. It's a heart wrenching read to know this is a true life story, written to document the experience and not to embellish the events for dramatic effect. It's amazing to me that survived and shared his story with us.

Right before the Nazis stomp out the rebellion, killing almost every last Jew and burning the ghetto to the ground, Wladyslaw yet again manages to miraculously escape by hiding with two Polish friends, the married couple Andrez and Janina Bogucki. But in a twist of fate that seems to be the stuff fiction is made of, it so happens that this particular German officer, Wilm Hosenfeld, is a rare breed: a refined, humane man who hates the Nazi totalitarian regime and what it has done to Germany, to the Jewish people, and to the rest of the world. Wilm also adores classical music. Once he finds out that Wladyslaw is a musician, he asks him to play something on the grand piano. Szpilman chooses Chopinâ€™s Ballade in G Minor. When he hears this beautiful music, the German officer is not only convinced of Wladyslawâ€™s talent, heâ€™s also deeply moved by it. He returns several times to give the starving young man much-needed food provisions, without which he no doubt would have died. Germans have almost lost the war by the time of this fortuitous meeting between the German officer and the Polish Jew. In gratitude, Wladyslaw tells him his name, in case heâ€™s ever taken prisoner by the Poles or Russians and will need his help someday. In a twist of fate--and strange role reversalâ€”when captured by the Red Army Wilm Hosenfeld mentions Szpilmanâ€™s name to save his own life. Unfortunately, by the time the Wladyslaw learns of this fact, itâ€™s too late. The Soviet prisoner of war camp had already been abandoned.The most memorable aspects of The Pianist, for me, are its beautiful writingâ€”this journal reads like a great novelâ€”and its nuanced descriptions of life in the Warsaw Ghetto: the overcrowded and increasingly desperate, deplorable conditions, where â€œHalf a million people had to find somewhere to lay their heads in an already over-populated part of the city, which scarcely had room for more than a hundred thousandâ€ (59). Class hierarchies may have saved the richer inmates from the worst conditions for a while, but eventually almost everyone meets their death. Even the children of the orphanage are doomed. They go to their deaths with dignity, sheltered by their beloved leader, Janusz Korczak, from knowledge of their tragic fate:â€œThe evacuation of the Jewish orphanage run by Janusz Korczak had been ordered that morning. The children were to have been taken away alone. He had the chance to save himself, and it was only with difficulty that he persuaded the Germans to take him too. He had spent long years of his life with children, and now, on this last journey, he would not leave them alone. He wanted to ease things for them. He told the orphans they were going out into the country, so they ought to be cheerful. At last they would be able to exchange the horrible, suffocating city walls for meadows of flowers, streams where they could bathe, woods full of berries and mushrooms. He told them to wear their best clothes, and so they came out into the yard, two by two nicely dressed and in a happy mood. Really great read and perfect for women coming into a relationship with no children of her own. Most stepmom books seem to focus (at least from what I've read) on generality and many aren't of the perspective specifically if the woman does not have kids of her own. Keep in mind when reading these books that we all have our own experiences so I have to remind myself that just because other examples/scenarios played out a certain way or challenging, that that doesn't indicate that my experience with my step kids will also be 100% that way. Keep your head up, stay positive and if you truly invest in spending time with the kids and getting on their level that you'll build the respect you both want and need.

I've found this book to be a great introduction to step parenting for someone who doesn't have kids, doesn't plan on having kids, and never planned on them in the first place. Jacquelyn incorporates anecdotal situations from a variety of step parenting families that she's interviewed which covers the spectrum of situations (on good terms with bio-mom, not on good terms with bio-mom, young kids, old kids, etc.) She uses business terminology to introduce concepts of step parenting, but you don't have to be a corporate type to understand or appreciate them. The book also includes lists and examples of things you need to talk to your partner about, and I found them to be helpful conversation starters.

For any woman following a successful professional career path, while at the same time approaching the dauntingly complex web of stepmotherhood, this book provides invaluable advise and direction toward a safe, concrete plan of approach to becoming a stepmother. I found many great points in this book even though this is about the third book on stepmothering I have read, My favorite part is at the end of each chapter, she provides questions for both yourself and your partner to discuss together in regards to the topics covered in each section. This book has helped me to solidify my approach to a situation that previously I found to be expectantly negative in general, in a manner that gives me the confidence I usually only reserve for work. I now look forward to finding my place in my new family. Highly recommended!

This past fall I married a man with 2 children from a previous marriage - hence entering the world of stepmotherhood. I never ever thought I'd be here. I had spent the better majority of my life working hard to further my career and continue to find that part of my life both rewarding and very fulfilling. I knew likely I would marry - I had great interest in the companionship and lifelong partnership that would bring. But I have never had quite the same desire to be a mom, let alone a stepmom. Life has a funny way of interjecting an alternate path when you least expect it!Since I met the kids almost 4 years ago, and knowing my relationship with their father was going to be serious, I started searching for support help and doing a lot of reading. But so much out there just never felt like it fit me...negativity, horror stories, or just basic differences - like me not bringing any kids into the equation on my side. I felt like the odd man out, and often felt more alien to stepmotherhood (or the possibility of it) than before I started reading. It is an ongoing "battle" for me. There are some days where I feel very confident in my role as stepmom. There are other days (many more than I would like to admit) where I feel out of sorts and paralyzed almost by the two kids running through my house.But with this book my feelings were very different. I found myself affirming some of the lines with noticeable head nods and even outloud comments like "I'm not the only one" and "I knew it wasn't just me." It was great. It was like finding a positive, comforting and empathetic friend who spoke with candor and honesty but also with heart and passion for making stepmotherhood more welcoming, more understood, and most importantly, more valued than it often is.So many stepmoms, especially those who bring no children of their own into the relationship, struggle to find their place with the children. And also come to terms with what this change means for them - both with their husband and with their career/independent life. My big struggle continues to be how to balance my professional life - which is probably the best it's ever been right now - with a personal life that to some extent, I never imagined myself a part of. But slowly, each day gets better, a little easier, more comfortable. Thanks largely in part to a very strong, supportive husband.Ms. Fletcher's book was refreshing, positive, and very helpful. Put it at the top of your list if you are going to be involved as a stepmother, now or in the future. Few take on the topic like Jacque does.

Great book for women, who like me are completely new to the family world. Taking on my partner and his son after years of being single was a huge shock and I couldn't understand why my emotions and rationality had completely gone out the window. This book helped me understand why I felt the way I did and methods to help me adapt. My relationship with my partner and stepson is now stronger than ever.

This is a great book for both stepmoms and step moms to be! I am in a serious relationship with a man with a toddler and this book was extremely helpful! It does a wonderful job of validating all the negative and challenging feelings (feelings I didnt even know others had too!) that comes with being in the step mom role but doesn't allow you to wallow in pity-and it's done in such an empowering and encouraging way. Jacque provides practical and reasonable solutions to handle a variety of challenges in an honest and endearing way that often ends up making you smile. This book hit so close to home and provided great opportunities for me and my boyfriend to talk and have a better understanding of each others perspective. Read the book, ladies! Your soul will be lifted, I promise!

I am in serious relationship with a man who has 3 children. I'm only 30 pages into this book and have already dog-eared more than 5 pages. I relate so much to how the woman feel in this book and it has really opened my eyes up to what I'm really getting myself into. If you are looking for a book to provide the ins and outs concerning refractors, stop here. And if you like to read a well written book would like to acquire knowledge concerning refracters, you have the right book.Unlike a lot of offerings in this area, this book is well organized, well illustrated, and well written. We are provided with a good, abridged history lesson on the subject of the refractor. Then the writer gets a bit technical without losing the reader. He explains how the refractor works, the inherant problems concerning that type of scope, and how those problems were addressed by various craftmen. He then provides reviews of various scopes.Nothing is perfect, so I suppose there had to be problems. And it was at this point some strange issues appeared. I am somewhat confused by the scopesvthe writer choose to review. Now, this maybe due to the approach and style of writing the author choose to use, an informal approach to the subject. None the less he neglects some scopes that I feel should have been included in his reviews. An example is the 90mm long tube achromate. The 90mm is a very popular choice for a beginners instrument and also for observing planets. Yet this scope is not mentioned. On the other hand, he spends an inordinate amount of time on some scopes that are so rare it is doubtful they should rate that much written space. This approach was confusing to me and forced me to backtrack through the book to see what I must have missed. Unfortunately, I have not missed a thing.Itâ€™s hard to see the writers purpose given the inconsistancies in his choice concerning the scopes he choose to review and the space allotted to each scope. It would have been helpful if he had provided some type of chart or list with some stats. Even more to be point, shorter more concise reviews of a wider scope selection would have been more pleasing to the reader.Even with those misgivings I still rate this as a very good book. You seldom find an offering in this area that provides this level of info.Do, Anyone wanting to know more about refractors or would like a nice short reference work, would do good to get this book.

Neil English has a passion for refractors and he isn't afraid to sing its praises!Nowadays, it would seem that refractors have taken a back seat to more popular, compact designs like the Schmidt-Cass, Maksutov, or amateur astronomy's workhorse, the Newtonian. But Mr. English pleads the case for the iconic refractor and the quality of its still superior images. He covers every design type with in-depth chapters ranging from; the history of the refractor, the traditional classical f/15 refractor, instruments of faster ratios, special dispersion glass, apochromatics, and the future of the refracting telescope. English also devotes chapters to the refractor's peculiarity of design and presents a strong case as to why the venerable, classical f/15 refractor still reigns supreme. The closing chapter covers the classical refractor's more recent popularity and quiet comeback.Neil English loves refractors and his enthusiasm sometimes leaps off the page. But, his work is methodical and he backs his observations and examples with hard evidence, calling on optical experts and professional astronomers to rally for his cause.If you are a hardcore refractor man, Neil English is preaching to the choir. If you are considering purchasing a refractor, this book is a revelation. If you like telescopes, this book is simply a joy to read.I have been a dedicated refractor owner, and user, for more than 34 years. Looking through a long focus, "classical" refractor for the first time is an experience that is truly sublime. And, it stays with some amateur astronomers for a lifetime.

Books in this series are about 10%-20% too expensive, but the size of this publisher's market is small, and given the quality of the information, the images and the author's style, I would definitely purchase this book again. I was planning to read it through systematically, but my curiosity for what came next drove me rapidly forward, and now I must go back and move ahead with pen in hand, underlining what's important for me. The author details carefully the differences between models and types of optical tubes that virtual beginners like me might too easily gloss over or overlook entirely. Refractors are but one of the three basic types of telescope; newcomers should learn about all three types before making a serious purchasing decision. This text belongs in every amateur astronomer's library.

If you are a refractor affectionado you will love this book. I have used telescopes for over 45 years and I thought I knew everything about refractors and I was wrong (e.g. defocus tolerance and the affects on seeing). The book has a breezy writing style that is upbeat and fun to read. Mr. Neil English is passionate about refractors and it is infectious! My only complaint is that the book places too much emphasis on reviewing telescopes (which will become outdate over time) and I would like to seen more emphasis on testing and optical performance theory. To the author's credit he did an excellent job explaining complex optical theory in a very digestable manner. A few typos were noted and some of the graphs were hard to decipher (due to lack of a color legend). Most of the books emphasis is on visual observing and not digital imaging. Some readeres may not agree with the author that the old telescopes were in many cases better than the new genera of APOs. I do agree with the author's statement that a properly made achromat with a slow f/ratio is really hard to beat for depth of focus, sharpness and contrast. I have seen it with my own eyes! When the book came to an end I found myself wanting more.

I love the patterns in this book. Great color schemes! I thought it was very easy tracing these patterns onto fusible web, adhering to fabric, and then placing on my quilt top. I made a 50" x 50" quilt in a weekend utilizing 14 of the butterfly designs, and everyone that saw it raved.

This is one of the best books on management out there. Like many officers, Pagonis thinks a little to highly of himself (in my opinion) but it is not overwhelming. I wish he explained in greater detail how his 6" x 9" card system worked because I didn't fully understand it (could have just been me though).This is probably the best treatise on the subject of military logistics out there. As a vet suffering from PTSD, I have met many young vets who have returned from the Mid East who are angry at the waiting they had to do before going into battle. I have shared this book with them and they have come back telling me "I didn't know it was that complicated". This book is a testament to all the behind the scenes work that is necessary to field an army.

Book arrived in excellent shape. Very pleased. This was a replacement for my library as this book has great value to future military logisticians.

Had been meaning to get this book for a long time. Finally have. Will be used when I get back into Logisitics Leadership

There are not a lot of books related to Army logistics out there and this is a great read. I would suggest it for any logistician. It is an easy ready and has some great information.

First, let's clear something up. This is NOT a textbook on logistics, nor is it a history of the first Iraq war. Rather, it is a book about effective leadership. It is also about change management. If you want to improve your leadership skills, then I highly recommend this book. I first read it in 1995, as I write this review in 2010, the notes I took then still resonate.If you are faced with a monumental task with a short timeline, then this book should be relevant to you.For example, General Pagonis writes about the importance of building a vision, acting upon it, setting goals related to it, then getting your directs to set objectives that support those goals.He also discusses the importance of communication. Although the book was written long before the rise of social media, his points about communication are still valid.But then he goes further and covers points I don't often seen discussed in other books or media.All in all, a good investment, especially since it's available in paperback now.

Great story about supply chain management during the Persian Gulf War

I read this book during the time I was doing my MBA. Many of the sources in the course of study having to do with production management referenced this text. Consequently I read it of my own volition. The techniques and tactics that Gus Pagonis detail are invaluable to anyone dealing with mentoring subordinates, coordinating multivariate product flows and needing to beat Murphy at his own game.I bought another copy for my nephew who (as of this writing) is now a first Lt in the US Army.

Excellent -- very informative and easy to use.

I didn't know as much as I would have liked about Passover, and these books were extremely helpful in becoming more familiar with it. Finding new perspectives on the traditional story and ritual was an exciting way to go about learning, and it really helped me connect to the holiday. In addition, the books just provide a great take on women's roles and accomplishments today. I would recommend this book and the Women's Passover Companion to everyone, whether you have thought a lot about Passover and are looking for fresh insights, or are just starting out and looking for meaning in the traditions of Passover.

This was an incredible book. The contributors were very passionate about Judaism and women's issues and incredibly well informed about Passover and connected themes. Some of the pieces were funny and some were serious, some were academic and other were more relaxed, creating a divere mix. This book was great because it can be useful for anyone who appreciates Passover -- religious or secular and everyone in between. It would make a great gift!
