I apologize to the creators for the mediocre review, but this program, which sounded like so much fun as a supplement to homeschool math, turned out to be far more complicated than I expected. I used it with my 13-year-old son, who was in honors math last year, and he really couldn't figure it out; neither could I, even with the teacher's manual. I think this book and program would most likely work well with a skilled math teacher who is well-versed in explaining concepts to kids and is enthusiastic about the material. For someone of middling math skills and no background knowledge about football scoring, it's very hard to "just figure out." After several weeks of confusion and struggle, we were so far behind that we gave up.I understand this is user error (i.e., I'm not smart enough to make it work), which is why my star rating doesn't slam the product. Rather, it's supposed to give others a heads-up that if you think this will be fun student-directed learning, you probably want to take a look at the book in-person before you buy the program.

My 6th through 8th grade students enjoyed the activities and the concepts presented in this book. They became a little it frustrated, when the baseball season continued past the end of school, and it was a bit hard to maintain their enthusiasm at times. I would use this as a fun, extra-special supplement to keep the students engaged in the future.

Dan did a great job in creating a comprehensive guide to incorporating foundational mathematics into an easy to use as well as instruct workbook. He also has included several different ideas that stem from the data collection of the players stats that a teacher can use throughout the week. I teach at a Community Day School and have all of my students work on their foundational math skills (i.e. decimals, percentages and fractions) with this curriculum.

I'm using this with my 6th grade elective math. LOVE IT! Highly recommended.The book is very detailed and presents all concepts of mathematics in a fun application.

This book has been useful for a number of youth that I work with. While they enjoy Football, they dont' understand fantasy football and could use some help with their math. It takes a number of math concepts and assist in their learning.

This book arrived yesterday, and I have almost compelted it in one sitting. It is effortless to read and engaging from the very first page. The writer tells her personal life story growing up very poor, but happy in Ireland, as well as leading the reader through her transition from Ireland to New York City to work for the wealthy. The tale of her life with Jackie Kennedy and her children is mesmerizing. She paints Jackie as human, with flaws, but forgiving flaws, and a lot of love and grace. The most suprising thing I have found in this book is just how funny little John Kennedy Jr was as a child. More than once, I have doubled over in hysterical laughter reading her accounts of his michevious boyhood, and innocent sense of humor. Love love love this book!!!

Of all the books I've read by people who actually knew Jacqueline Kennedy or her children (John in particular), this one is quite possibly my favorite. It's a very well-written account of what it was like to be a young Irish immigrant, born and raised in humble circumstances (i.e. poor as a crow), new to America and thrust into one of the most auspicious positions anyone could've found themselves in at that time in our country's history.It's also refreshingly honest. Lots of people have handed themselves over in service to various Kennedys over the years, either via friendship or employment, without ever realizing how much of their own lives they were willing to sacrifice in exchange for the privilege. (See "Fairy Tale Interrupted" written by John Jr.'s secretary/personal assistant at George Magazine, RoseMarie Terenzio, as a prime example. Like many of her fellow acolytes, Terenzio didn't just work for a Kennedy; eventually her entire life revolved around his without so much as a second thought - and likely still would be if he was with us today, God rest him.) Most fascinating to me is how special most of them think they are for being allowed to become such loyal soldiers - and just how pitiful anyone else who isn't them must be, including those in "lesser" positions of importance in the ranks.McKeon was not one of these people.She worked hard for her employers and gave them a lot of her free time, but she worked just as hard to become her own person living her own life. She developed real affection for and close relationships with them, understood and respected their importance, and admired them as much as the next person, but more importantly she learned to value herself enough not to allow them to take advantage of her, something people like the Kennedys become so accustomed to doing it's as natural as breathing to them.In that regard, McKeon's years with the family is as much a coming of age story as anything else. She grew up, got a life and family of her own, and one gets the profound sense that that is how it should be. And she pulls no punches, giving both loving praise to and no nonsense portrayals of the people she came to know, some of them less affectionately than others but with goodwill and a lot of humor.In short, they couldn't have been luckier to have one another, and one gains a respect for all of them for their knowing it.My heartfelt thanks to Mrs. McKeon for sharing her story with us.

Kathy is a great storyteller!Jackie’s Girl is an easy read as she draws you in with her genuine innocence and sense of humor. If your goal is to ‘mine’ for Kennedy gossip you are sadly missing the over-arching theme of two women, from extremely different backgrounds, deeply connecting over mutual experiences of tragedy, isolation, and aloneness. She weaves together the stories of her life with Jackie in a manner that makes you feel the connection between Kathy and Jackie as it grows over time. This book is about a life-changing experience, its about human connection despite extremely different world experiences…its about a relationship that only becomes significant for those taking the time to think and reflect on how an individual can come into our lives and dramatically influence who we are. We are all human, and we can all relate to the moments when we hide in the pantry eating a loaf of Wonder Bread or finish a pint of Ice Cream from the container with a giant serving spoon. A beautiful story that will make you laugh and cry all at the same time. Add it to your Summer reading list!

Once I began reading this book, I couldn't put it down. I thought the author's experiences and memories were honest, credible, and reflective. She portrayed her famous boss and their relationship in a very accurate privately humanistic manner. Their long relationship was based on mutual trust, respect, and love. I enjoyed this book very much.

Without ever having been a Kennedy groupie, or a groupie for any group or person frankly, I absolutely loved this book.Kathie came from Ireland from a farming family whose life was very like US farming families in the 1800's, where a horse was used to plow and water carried in buckets from the well. She and her sister stopped attending school to help with chores and with supporting the family. They were given the opportunity to go to the US by relatives already there, which they did. Her plan was to work til her family no longer needed the money she sent back to them and return, following the love for family and country which nothing in the US could supplant.The trajectory of her life, however, was destined to be remarkable one. She was hired as a personal assistant to the recently widowed Jacqueline Kennedy, and part time nanny to her children John and Caroline. She found herself at the periphery of many major historical events in the years that followed, always as herself. She was never awed or impressed by where she was or who she was around, but always observing, compassionate and full of laughter.She clearly had a lot of help writing this book, since she stated several times she didn't read well. It has elements of "Upstairs Downstairs" US style. She fills out the personalities of both children and Jacqueline Kennedy humanizing them completely. I am so glad she made and kept a commitment to get her life down on paper, it was such a pleasure to read. She did fall in love, and stayed in the US, making her peace with leaving Ireland. It was our gain.

Very useful book especially for those starting their collections. The only flaws are an incomplete catalog of figures and a total lack of special collections ex. the Egyptian pieces in black and gilt.

An excellent source to help collectors identify their items. The author details the beginning of Jasper Ware and changes made through the years. His descriptions of the shapes and scenes depicted are priceless. The photograps alone are worth the purchase price.I just wish I had this collectors guide when I first started my collection. I am thoroughly delighted with this book.

Since I am such a fan of Wedgwood, I have really enjoyed scanning through the book, and finding new information on these beautiful pieces.

If you are looking for classic Wedgewood, this book is very helpful. It is also helpful in identifying the bas reliefs.

The title of this book suggests that it is a guide to all Wedgwood Jasper Ware, but the author concentrates strictly on dipped jasper ware. The title should indicate this. The text of the book also is filled with the author's opinions that dipped jasper ware is somehow superior to solid Wedgwood jasper ware and that the latter category of wares is rather declasse. He is certainly entitled to his opinions but they should not be presented as standard for Wedgwood collectors. His collection (and therefore his book)concentrates on a very specific period of production that he prefers but as I stated above the title does not indicate this. Having said that, am I sorry that I purchased this book (indeed pre-ordered it and waited several months for it?) Not at all. The photographs are sumptuous, and that section of the book is superb. The shapes of the pieces and subjects of the bas reliefs listed apply to all types of Wedgwood wares, dipped jasper, solid jasper, basalt, Queensware, drab ware, etc. For this very reason, the book is a valuable reference. Quality books on Wedgwood are few and far between and older ones are difficult to find if one wants to own them and not have to go to a library. In conclusion, drool over the pictures, but divide the text into two categories: Wedgwood history (which the book is short on) and author's opinion (of which there is plenty.)An addendum of second thoughts:The book convinced me to acquire my first piece of dipped jasperware. I can certainly see why the author raves about the quality of the workmanship during this period of production. The dipped jasper has qualities that more modern solid jasper does not offer but the solid jasper has wonderful qualities of its own. I will not go so far as to say that one is superior to the other, but that each needs to be appreciated for what it is. I am grateful to the author for expanding my (Wedgwood jasper) vision.

Author Michael Herman shares his knowledge and experience with other collectors.It not only provides basic information so important to the beginning collector. It is a resource for all collectors in this area. Each piece is identified as fully as possible-including the bas relief figures.Dark blue does predominate, not a surprise, as it was the most popular color. Still the other jasper ware colors are well represented.Most of the pieces illustrated were made between the mid 19th century and the virtual end of jasper dip production in 1940. It is indeed refreshing to have a book that focuses on this period in this area of collecting. The timeless appeal of Wedgwood jasper ware is so well illustrated.

His father was a Mitnagid, opposed to mysticism. His mother was a descendant of Chabad, a Chasidic group. When asked “What will you be?” he answered “I will be both.” In 1920, at the age of fifty-five, he moved to Jerusalem and became its chief rabbi.Rabbi Kook’s writings are generally, but not always very mystical and difficult to understand. However, Rabbi Ari Ze’ev Schwartz’s book “The Spiritual Revolution of Rav Kook” unravels the writings with a new translation, with each chapter being divided into clearly stated topic headings added by Rabbi Schwartz, such as the individual, Torah, God, teshuvah, prayer, creativity, Zionism, science, and vegetarianism. Rabbi Schwartz also introduces each section with a clear explanation of what Rabbi Kook is saying.Rabbi Kook became chief rabbi long before the State of Israel was reestablished in 1948. He lived during a period when the vast majority of pioneers who sacrificed their lives and came to Israel and faced difficulties in their attempts to build up the land of Israel were irreligious Jews, often men and women who were antagonistic to religion. He is properly credited and even commended for working to draw all people close, even those who rebelled against religion. He taught that each person should want to influence friends and be influenced by them for the increase of the greater good. He also taught that everyone should find a personal Torah and realize that there is not just one type of Torah, but an endless variety that can speak to countless individuals in different ways.The following are some other of Rabbi Kook’s ideas:The highest type of thinking is never reject any idea in the world. No one has a monopoly on truth. There is truth in other religions.Secular knowledge is important. We must teach our children what is necessary for them to know how to confront the trials of life.I walk around with an overwhelming jealousy of the secular world. It is a jealousy that consumes me. For is it really possible that the power of creativity has ceased within the religious world?Atheists may be on the right track. They may be denying an immature and distorted image of God. In other words, their denial of God is really a deeper quest for a higher, more sophisticated understanding. Atheism comes to purify the dirt, the embarrassments, that have stuck to a religion that lacks any comprehension. Religious people should understand this, and pay attention to what is bothering them.One should not only study a religious text to receive a new idea; it should serve as a tool toward understanding oneself.The role of an author of any book is to begin the discussion of an idea, yet it is the reader’s responsibility to respond by searching for their own personal meaning.The ideal perfection of a person can only be accomplished by focusing one’s energy on improving one’s own individual self as much as possible. Yet at the same time a person should keep in mind that one’s own individual perfection will never be completed until the Jewish people have successfully reached national perfection.People should realize that being totally perfect is unattainable and should understand that a person’s true greatness is found in the journey of constantly striving to become a little better.More than asking God to forgive our misdeeds, we should learn to forgive ourselves and work to assure we do not repeat our mistakes.Personal growth requires us to first clarify what is the character trait we want to assume, and only after knowing this try to embody it.A person who thinks that prayer changes God’s will is blaspheming.The demand for physical activity is enormous. We need healthy bodies. But we have focused on our souls and have forgotten the holiness of the body.We must agree with Maimonides who taught that the stories of creation told in the Torah should not be understood literally; rather, they have a deeper lesson to teach.It is hard to believe that God created a world that Genesis 1:31 calls “very good,” and yet made it impossible for humankind to survive without distorting its moral sensitivity by murdering animals.

This book changed my religous and spiritual outlook on life. This is by no means an understatement.I feel so lucky to have spent time learning such a beautiful text finally translated. However, Rav Ari Ze'ev Schwartz does't stop there - he allows for insights and real life examples that are incredibly relatable. I've already purchased a couple copies for family members.My outlook on how to treat other people, how to care for myself, how to relate to hard concepts in the Torah has all changed.DO YOUR SOUL A FAVOR AND OPEN THIS BOOK (chances are you wont put it down...)

While Rav Kook's original writings can be hard to understand, Rav Ari Ze'ev Schwartz really helps with translating his writings in the most relatable way. This book is not a one time read. It is a book I continuously gain from each and every time I pick it up. If you're looking for a book that will be a staple in your spiritual journey, I would highly recommend this one!

Rav Schwartz does a wondeful job of focusing the reader’s attention on Rav Kook’s central themes. The message of gaining a deeper spiritual connect with G-d given me renewed faith. For those who are stuck in monotonous observance, this book is a must read.

The Spiritual Revolution of Rav Kook is an excellent compilation of various Rav Kook pieces. I find Rav Kook fascinating, however, I often have a hard time understanding the original Hebrew without help. I have not found many good translations of Rav Kook's writings, however Rabbi Ari Schwartz's translation is fantastic and translates a lot of passages that I otherwise would never have been able to learn by myself. While some of the translations discuss some of Rav Kook's more well-known opinions, I also appreciate the translations of Rav Kook on topics as diverse and understudied as atheism, prophesy, and Christianity. The book is also organized by topic, which makes learning Rav Kook convenient and great for shiurim! All in all, a great book to own!

These are unstructured writings of one of my favorite rabbis in modern time. I tried reading them in the original Hebrew. I was happy to see that there is a very good translation of his writings. Rav Kook is one that understood modern society and the new realties the world was entering. Instead of doubling down by sticking to tradition, He ventured out to discuss head on modern issues without holding back. He embraced secularism not as a threat but as a reality, and refused to shun it as other Rabbis have done and still do today. I love the writing about animals and that we need to respect and care for them as a Jewish and human trait.I cherished his practically but he was a spiritual man as well: person should not journey in the pardes (kabbalistic/ philosophic fields) before first having filled his or her stomach with meat and wine (Tanach, Gemara, halachah, etc.).What most moves me with Rav Kook is his love of Eretz Israel and Zionism regardless if the person is religious or not. That is the take away here. Enjoy!!!
