I just finished registering the book and downloading the free lessons. I had no trouble with any of it, and I am not a computer specialist. The book was in perfect condition when it arrived. The book is well organized, with the steps for each procedure indented and numbered. There are many illustrations, both of the picture being worked on and the corresponding icons/sliders, etc. in Photoshop. I just have to find the time to take advantage of all the bounty!

This book requires downloads from Peachpit/Pearson so you need to register on their site. After attempting to register they ask you to enter the 5th word of the first line of step 3 in Chapter 4 of the book. There is no "Step 3" so no download is possible. They do not have telephone support, only contact via a message on their site. You leave the message, get an acknowledgement, but no response.

I needed this book for a college class. It walks you through design step by step but doesn't explain much. It's easy to follow but I feel like I'm learning a shallow version of PS. It's easy to follow and is loaded with pictures.

This book covers basic to advanced features of Photoshop CC 2019.

About the Author

David Bourg is a Naval Architect involved in various military and commercial proposal, design, and construction efforts. Since 1998, David has served as an independent consultant working for various regional clients engaged in both commercial and military shipbuilding where he provides design and analysis services including but not limited to concept design, proposal writing, detailed design and analysis, visualization, and software development among other services. He coordinated and led the winning design and proposal effort for the US Coast Guard Point Class (patrol boat) Replacement Program. In 2006, David joined fellow Naval Architect Kenneth Humphreys to form MiNO Marine, LLC, a naval architecture and marine professional services firm.In addition to Physics for Game Developers, David has published two other books. He earned a PhD in Engineering and Applied Science in 2008 from the University of New Orleans. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Orleans School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, where he has taught various courses since 1993.Ever since his father read A Brief History of Time to him in middle school, Bryan Bywalec wanted to be an astrophysicist. While he will always have a passion for pure physics, he became more and more obsessed in high school with the application of those physical principles he was learning. Having been around sailboats his entire life, his decision to seek a degree in Naval Architecture at the University of New Orleans surprised few.While working on his degree, Mr. Bywalec was employed as a network administrator for the College of Engineering. Great book. I deduct a star because I wish there was more in the chapter that I bought this for. That is, the section on MEMS really only covers accelerometers.

Awesome book, gets to the core of physics without too much detail

Though this book was well written and is very dense full of information I was not able to make very much use of it. I havent done any claculus since college many years ago and I was hoping this book would take me step by step on how to do physics for game development. This book is for people who already have a good understanding of calculus and are already pretty strong in math. I couldn't make it past the second chapter with the complicated stuff in this book. I guess I need to refresh my calc skills before going back to this book

Admittedly, I am not the brightest person on the earth (there is a reason I bought this book after all..) I wish I had this book years ago. I love it; all 12670 pages of it. Especially the part on Digital Physics whish is so important to game development today. I highly recommend this book to everyone, particularly game developers.

If you are like me coding for games, this book let's you understand most of the physics behind games

I have several physics game engine books. I was a bit confused until I got my hands on this book. I was able to implement most of the physics that I needed with what I learnt in this book. Simply Amazing.

When I began developing games in earnest, one of the first books I was enthralled by was David M. Bourg's first edition of Physics for Game Developers, published way back in 2002. Being completely new to making games but easily lured in by the latest and greatest game dev books as they came out I waited for quite a while before actually taking the plunge and buying Mr. Bourg's book. After all, O'Reilly typically releases new editions every few years as technology changes and the information needed by the average reader changes with it. Surely, I thought, the second edition of Physics for Game Developers must be right around the corner.So with that in mind, I waited... and waited. In the meantime, I read through the most beginner of books discussing physics as a component of game development, books specifically intended to help intermediate developer, and even invested in a few large hardbound tomes specifically devoted to game physics and physics engine development. Finally, one day with visiting my favorite technical bookstore a year or two ago I happened upon a well worn used copy for Physics for Game Developers and bought it, resigning myself to never seeing a second edition made. After all, what had changed about physics that warranted a new version?Which brings us to 2013 and the release after more than a decade, of the second edition of Physics for Game Developers. So why the new edition?Well, for starters, the content has been significantly expanded upon, and the new edition is close to twice as long as the old one. Mostly responsible for this expansion is the inclusion of an extremely exciting new section (for game developers that is) devoted to digital physics-- that is, the physics associated with new gaming inputs and sensors, like touch screens, accelerometers, 3D input devices (think Kinect or Playstation Move), and even pressure sensors and GPS devices. Specific nuts and bolts discussion of the physics of these devices has been a long time coming in book form, and they don't disappoint. However, if you're looking for a basic discussion of these sensors (or for that matter any of the modeling discussed here), or for code tutorials, or if you're just getting started with programming, it might be best to look elsewhere to start with and return to this book once you've cut your teeth on a few Web tutorials or a beginner's book.This doesn't in any way reduce Bourg and Bywalec's book; I'm simply trying to say that this book is for intermediate programmers who have some knowledge of physics (and the mathematics involved with it) to start with. This also shouldn't be a surprise at all, since all a prospective reader needs to do is read the short section on "What We Assume You Know".As a reference for physics as it pertains to game programming, for my money this is just about the best book available of the subject, since it's succinct and well-written while remaining fairly comprehensive. Just about anything you could typically want to model in a game is discussed, from physics fundamentals and rigid-body dynamics (in Parts I and II) to physical modeling (in Part III). Instead of digging through a dozen lighter books for just that one example to help answer a question, I will always reach for this one. The inclusion of digital physics in this new edition has only improved its quality and utility.I would highly recommend Physics for Game Developers, specifically in its second edition, to intermediate game programmers who have at least a basic understanding of physics. This is an excellent, well-written reference for any concept in physics that pertains to game programming and to gaming sensors.

Helpful as a conceptual summary but useless for actually building a game. As others have pointed out the text references code samples that were never released. If you do go to the trouble to try to recreate the code from the provided snippets you'll find yourself fixing lots of bugs and still not end up with anything useable.

I bought this to read to by daughter on a phone. Sadly, it book cannot zoom, while most ebooks can. The print is so small that it is completely unreadable on the phone and must be read on a computer - not too convenient when laying down in bed.I read ebooks on my phone to her all the time and I really see no reason that this book would be different from all the others and would not support zooming. Simply poor quality design.

OK for spongebob lovers, not awesome in any way...a little boring. I think they figured they didn't need to be too creative because the selling point was Spongebob, could have had better story lines.

This book is really elementary and should only be for first timer Fidget Spinners. My son laughed at the suggestions in the book, because they are so easy. If you are looking for something fun and new to do, look elsewhere.

For the most part I was thinking that fidget pinners would be nothing but a short-lived fad. Wrong, really wrong because, like the Duncan yo-yo, they’re obviously here to stay. There’s a bit more to the fidget spinner than simple stress relief or entertainment. David King can certainly attest to that because he’s come up with a pile of entertaining tricks and activities that make me want to toss the single Spinner I have and buy a few more. According to him, “there are hundreds, thousands, maybe millions of fidget spinner designs out there.”I had no clue that these toys even had a story behind them and, in fact, have “been around in different forms since 1993.” Pogs I was familiar with, spinners, no. Back to those designs. Among the many discussed in this book there are spinners aplenty: The Tri, the Bi-Win, the Hex, the Quad, the Wheel, the Mini, the Fidget Cube, the Fidget Pad, the Fidget Flip, and the one I got in the Dollar Store. Well, skip that one because it’s not in here. There’s also a page of some ultra-cool fidget spinners in the “Hall of Fame.”This book is packed with some good-to know information I never knew. King starts off by describing how spinners are made and how they work. He explains that they are “actually little machines with a whole lot of physics behind them.” A word to the wise is in one sidebar and that’s the fact that fidget spinners shouldn’t be “distracting to other’s in a classroom.” The fun really begins when learning how to do some amazing tricks ... at home. Here is why the book is indispensable:If you want a low-tech, low-maintenance, ecologically-based, no-panic aquarium, you need it to have relatively few animals and many plants. If you have lots of plants you must understand their interactions with physical factors and each other. This book will give you a very good education in the factors leading to success or failure in a planted aquarium, no matter what species you put in it.Here is how the book is disappointing, even though you need it:It is not a very polished work and it feels strangely incomplete.It is poorly edited. The sentence-level writing errors made me wince. They also suggest that Walstad worked so completely alone that any mistakes in content would have gone un-caught, which makes the book a little less credible. The author uses obsolete species names for plants rather than the phylogenetically updated taxonomy; this is understandable when the wrong names are more commonly used as trade names, but a book devoted to the science of planted aquariums ought to at least include a a simple table with the preferred scientific names. Some graphics are fuzzy and look as though they have been Xeroxed from early 1990s-era computer print-outs. The writing style, while gratifyingly straightforward and clear, is also rather monotonous.This moderately dense but thin volume needs much more scientific information on the species commonly used in planted tanks. The summaries of formal research that Walstad does supply are welcome, and I am grateful that she uses her scientific background to interpret them in ways we can understand, but they are nowhere near enough. This is bewildering, as I think surely there must be a lot of useful facts "out there" in the scientific journals and Walstad would seem to be just the person to hunt them down and sort them out for us. Another shortfall in content is the lighting information, which is sparse and surprisingly out-of-date; at the book's 2013 release LED lights were already common and approaching predominance, but Walstad, who did not switch to LEDs until 2017, does not discuss them.The most disappointing omission for me is the book's lack of specific tank composition guidance. As a book marketed toward aquarists, whose interest in plant ecology is ultimately practical, it ought to have included even just one table of plants that are and are not likely survive together, and why, in aquariums where the water and light parameters alone would suggest that all might flourish. While allelopathy as an ecological phenomenon is very nicely explained, few specific examples of allelopathic incompatibilities in aquarium species are provided, and those few are strung throughout the chapter in the form of anecdotes and research summaries. I hope that in future editions Walstad can provide more information on plant pairings to try or to avoid, and organize it in reference tables.

I'm going to be neutral about this book and give it 3 stars. If your interested in this book and don't know what your getting yourself into I suggest getting the $11.99 kindle version in-case you end up with the same sentiment as me as it will be easy to return for refund. I returned this book not because I think its a bad book with no useful information but instead because I hated how this book was formatted. Each chapter is broken down with their respective topics and then brief summaries are discussed regarding each topic. Then the topics either went into further detail or just plain went nowhere coupled with scientific graphs and references ending the chapter. I just hated how the chapters were broken down and had a real difficult time following along. I found myself skipping through a good portion of the book and locating certain information that I found was useful for me as a simple hobbyist. I just could not bring myself to look further through the book. However, as you can see based on the other reviews there are plenty of people who loved this book.

If you know about this book then you know to just buy it. So just hit buy and wait by your front door. This book is very impressive. I know we have google and bing but this is another level if pure plant enthusiasts nerd level of comprehension. You will get what you need out of this book and you will be that much more in debt because now you will start a million little tanks with dirt lol great read,

So far this is a good read. I do enjoy the detail the book goes into to justify something I am currently doing a live experiment on, but I do question the actual engineering standpoint of the book. Ms. Walstad has gone to college level chemistry and biology lengths to explain processes that previously were basically explained by 'magic' and from the view of a technical proofing she makes awesome claims then backs them up with tried and true science. While the book from this level is as rock solid (or should I say water tight?) it does leave the average reader with little more than a gentle (ish.. brush up on some of those college books you got in your first 2 years!) tour through reactions between plants, fish, soil, minerals, and bacteria. It is up to you the reader to graduate and use this in applied understanding.TL:DRRead the book to understand what is going on in your tank, and what can go wrong (or right!) in your micro-ecosystem, but do not expect a step by step instruction with pictures and cute pop ups and coloring areas for what to do when setting up and growing it. You're getting graphs and annotated studies there were like 4 color pictures in mine and no coloring areas.

As a scientist I appreciate the way this book is written. It reads a lot like a scientific journal article so don’t expect a bunch of pretty pictures(although there are some nice color panels). I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to expand their knowledge of the processes involved in an aquatic ecosystem. She explains the many factors to consider when setting up a planted aquarium and goes into great experimental detail. She uses natural solutions to solve common problems that otherwise might require harsh chemicals. I found the question and answer examples to be helpful. She details some example tanks in the later half of the book that are very good starting points if you’re looking to set up your own low tech planted tank. After reading this book and setting up a 10g heavily planted tank I am sold on the use of natural processes to control your water chemistry and keep your tank healthy and thriving.
