Amusing book, quick read. I like his stand-up much more, but if you're a fan then you'll enjoy hearing some background on his life. I'd have been more apt to give it another star if the kindle version had only cost a couple bucks. The length vs price was just a little unbalanced in my opinion.

His stories are so funny and move fast. I am same age, went to college at the same time (in the South at Tulane), and became a dad 7 years ago...and i can relate to the stories on many levels. You were able to take more risks in the 90s and do fun stuff, without worrying so much. As he tells the stories, u can feel that he loved that he experienced all these times. I've read so many memoirs and his is one of the most enjoyable ones. Only problem would be I was reading to fall asleep and ended up laughing out loud which woke up my wife. Good read!

I loved that I could hear him talking inside my head as I was reading, and the stories in here made me laugh out loud. The very last story did a good job in summing it all up, and is extremely relatable, as a parent. The only problem I had with this book was that I would've liked to see more stories that we all haven't heard several times. It was too easy to read this book inside of a day (a work day, no less). Maybe he's saving those stories for another book.

If you've seen his Netflix comedy special skip this book. If you've never seen it, buy it. I think Doug Stanhope's books are better because they're longer. Some of Bert's stories are typical, it's the wording that makes them stand out. A must have for any comedy fan.

A really fun read, my minor complaint is that it was short, Bert Kreischer obviously have got plenty more stories so the book could have been 100 pages longer.The book gives you snippets of the life of Bert Kreischer, a man that does not know how to say no. There is stories from his childhood to today and everything in between, some stories I had heard before but now told in greater detail but most of stories were new to me. His life so far have been truly unique thanks to some part luck but mostly his personality. The book does not shy away from telling stories both of triumph and defeat, stories of pride and shame and stories of brilliance and idiocy. For example what I believe is Bert Kreischers most famous story, The Machine, is in there and it mixes all the elements above,The book captures Bert Kreischers amazing and unique energy and I often found myself putting his laugh into the stories. I believe most people will find this a fun read but it will be even better if you have some experience with Bert Kreischers other projects; his Standup, his TV-shows or, maybe even better, his podcast. I will continue to follow Bert Kreischers career and hope for more amazing and fun stories in the future.

Great read with so many laugh out loud moments that have gotten me some looks from people while reading it at the coffeeshop. I wouldn't recommend reading this in a library or any other quiet environment, you will not be able to keep from busting a gut. Bert's over the top exuberance comes through the pages with so many stories from a "I gotta party with that guy" kind of dude.If you are a fan of his podcast or appearances on other shows, a fan of his "Bert the Conquerer" days you'll find this a great Summah read that will have you laughing days later....

Have been a fan of Bert's since first hearing him on Jay Mohr's podcast a few years back and have since enjoyed his stand-up and listened to every episode of his podcast. In short, I think save for one or two, I have heard versions of all of these stories before ... and they were still brand new to me as he adds detail and feeling that isn't possible in other formats. The story is one of a man in progress and closing it as he did, with him coming off the road to deal with a family situation (no spoilers), I think sets up well for another book, where he deals with life as an adult as opposed to the adolescent and post-adolescent described in these pages. I know he has talked about writing a second and I look forward to it after devouring this one very quickly. One reviewer said he never grew up in this book. I'd disagree in part as you can see it happening in the end. That said, that was kind of the point: the man's in progress. When you are The Machine, stepping into the light can be tough, especially when that persona pays the bill. But it seems like that's what's happening, slowly but surely. I look forward to what's next.

I stumbled across Bert Kreischer in various comedy podcasts. He sounded like a such a loveable guy(that laugh!), and when he performed in Philly last year, I jumped at the chance to see him. One of my best decisions ever. He's become one of my favorite comedians, his special here on amazon is totally worth buying and I went to see him a second time when he came back to town. And will go every time, this guy is a giver on his podcast, but you'll find interesting, funny stuff you didn't know about him in this book. It's entertaining as hell, and a damn fun read. Even emotional(the last chapter!). Support this awesome guy and enjoy the book, it's great.

May have been a first class book, but the kindle edition is outdated and urgently needs updating.While much of the stuff in the book is useful, some links are hopelessly useless, and for 2012 a lot of GPS stuff has improved a lot since the book was written.It is also very US-centric, and that needs clarifying. For example, the book is not clear that the WAAS is ONLY available for the US and nearby areas, so much of the accuracy claims are irrelevant for most of the world.However, for newcomers it does provide an electronic option and is written in an easy to read style. Like many electronic books it suffers from a poor ability to move/ flick quickly back and forth over more than a few pages to recheck material or come back to reread areas to recheck how to do stuff. A hard copy book does make that easier.But overall, a lot of interesting information that is, useful. There are other books around on GPS usage, so this is just average.

I still haven't bought a GPS, but now I know what I'm looking for. This book is great for educating you before you spend $200 to $500 just to find out the unit you bought doesn't have to options you need. The author doesn't mention "hunting" which is what I want the unit for, but substitute "hiking" and "back-country" and you get the idea. The book includes helpful tips like buying a unit you can operate with gloves on or be able to read in bright sunlight.I would recommend it to anyone thinking about buying a handheld GPS or one for the car, whether it be for yourself or a gift for someone else.

I bought this book because I had recently purchased a GPS and was frustrated by the techno speak in the manual. I was looking for something to help me through the jargon.Only about 1/3 of the book is specificallly about your GPS. A small section is about cartography and the rest deals with "digital mapping" (more jargon for computer software dealing with maps). All of the information is at least loosely tied to a GPS. There is no glossary section but the author does embed many clarifications of technical terms that are helpful for dummies like me.The GPS sections are an improvement over my manual but still only partially sucessful. Priorities in choosing and mastering a GPS are miniscule. The cartography portion has information that is both interesting and helpful and does not bog the reader down with irrelevant information. These two topics are discussed in the first seven chapters.The book then turned to digital mapping and I almost gave up on the book. I had no interest in mapping and I wasn't totally satisfied with the previous sections. Luckily I continued on. The mapping chapters are almost exclusively about mapping software (and little utility programs that help). The software information includes commercial, shareware and freeware programs. It discusses programs for the beginner on up to some heady stuff. You may want to take up the subject as a hobby even if you never were interested before. If I had the time I would be tempted to just play with this stuff because it is so cool.If you buy the book, I would first just skim this "software" portion of the book when you go through it the first time. I think there are 14 chapters. It is amazing what is available but also sometimes redundant. I would use it only as a reference and study only the sections you need at that moment. Reading it word by word might be wasteful.I do wish that the author had separated the utility software into a separate chapter so that those jewels could be returned to easily. I found them very useful.The book is a mixed bag. The software chapters are the best part. The GPS info is not going to thrill you. The reading is pretty easy for a technical book.

I love the plastic protective covering, that the book came in! This is an in depth book, made simple, for most dummies to understand. A must get book, in today's electronic technology. You don't want to get lost do you? It's always conforting, to know, that you will always know where you are, with a GPS, providing you know how to work one! This book explains that!

I bought a Garmin handheld and was surprised it didn't have instructions and assumed I was an expert. Since I'm not, I picked up this book and it has been a big help, otherwise I was unable to use the Garmin. Maybe Garmin could provide instructions?

Very Informative. Not exactly what I needed help with but still got a lot out of it.

I was very excited when I got the package because my kids love this series and I wanted them to own the books instead of borrowing them. I loved the idea of gifting them a collectible boxed set to keep them neatly displayed and easy to find. Unfortunately I received 10 books inside an opened shrink wrap and no collectible box. I also noticed that the 10th book was different from what is pictured. It came with "old school" instead of "do it yourself book". So keep these things in mind. You may not get the collectible box for the boxed set and you may not get the same books as you expect. Disappointed.

I am 11 years old and I have been reading this series over and over for 4 years! However they are not a challenge or a deep read they are just clever and happy. I chose to write a review on this one because it is my favorite but that applies to all the books. I was lucky enough to have the author visit my school 2 years ago and he said some people don't like his books because they are not deep enough. As much as reading a deep and challenging story is important what is wrong with something light and funny once and a while. I think that reading is reading and these books will put a smile on your face and there is nothing wrong with that, not only that, they very clever and they have a true story line aside to being silly! I highly recommend for kids 7-12 (or any age above 12 if you eat to read a good laugh out loud story) :) :) :)

My 6 year old son began reading "Wimpy Kid" books just as he was learning to read. Many times I would allow him to read before bed and would hear him laughing hysterically in his room. Now, 7 years old, he has read all of them and often will pick them up and read them again. They are silly, but the appeal to his age demographic was actually amazing to me. I didn't have to make him read... he wanted to read. And he loved them all. I would recommend the entire series to any parent of a child who is learning and becoming comfortable with reading comprehension.

I bought quite a few of these, because my grandson was enjoying some he had brought home from school. His mom has to limit the amount of time he spends reading them, as they change his behavior from good to not so good. I would not have bought them if I had known they would be causing a problem.

This particular purchase was a gift for a friends son, but I still have my 12 year olds sons book from 4 years ago. It's full of stories to be completed by your child and so funny to look back on when they're older. The hardback is very durable, has held up through a crazy (now 12 years old, as the photo shows:) ) boys toting it around and a move. I'll be holding on to this forever.

The books are great for my older son who just finished first grade. He got into this series at the beginning of the summer and I got him this set to bring to our summer travels. He went through them all in no time. But in the days that they lasted, they kept my son well entertained. I also dipped into the pages and like them. My brother-in-law picked up one and couldn't put it down. We saw the series on display in Portuguese supermarkets and German bookstores and met other kids who read the German version of them. The wide and ageless appeal of these books is self-evident.​

I started purchasing this authors books for my 7 year old granddaughter. This was my 2nd purchase from the group. She has really gotten to become an avid reader because not only can she learn to grow in a most positive way but they make it easy for her to relate to other kids and the importance of kindness and compassion for those that might be different. Much easier because the information is coming from a place of their choice. The "Best" part is there are hundreds to purchase and help with their growth process and they can be passed down.

This is a beautiful book---both in word and in illustration. I love the visionary idea of Sky Bear's "sensory" journey through the star, her well-known path in the night sky. The timeless, inviting nature of the myth, the land, the stars, the images, and the poems connect readers to something larger than themselves, to something warm and positive...to something that breathes with its own life and pulse.My favorite poem / illustration pair from the book is "The Scattered Stars" (from the Cochiti Pueblo, Southwest) because it reminds me of the book "How the Stars Fell into the Sky: A Navajo Legend" told by Jerrie Oughton, illustrated by Lisa Desimini. Each tells a similar tale whereby curiosity and impatience bring disorganization and confusion to the night sky---save for a few special patterns (constellations) that survive. How clever the Southwest peoples were to develop such an idea to explain the infinite, speckled heavens that opened up above them.I also like "The Seven Mateinnu" poem / illustration pair (Lenape Eastern Woodlands) because it reminds me of the Pleiades stars--one of my favorite star-gazing objects, and I like the story of seven wise men as depicted in the poem rather than seven maidens, which is popular in other world myths.Another notable piece in this book is "The Trail of the Pinon Gatherers," which describes "Sky Coyote, Star Who Never Moves" ---which sounds very much like a description of the North Star, Polaris, which, of course, is a circumpolar star that never appears to move.The book is well-designed, and the poems' text is easy to read (great for eye-glass wearers!) The author's notes at the end of the book are helpful for further reading. All and all, this is a fantastic book to share with any class that studies descriptive astronomy, mythology, legends, folklore, and history. The book teaches respect and appreciation for the night sky as well as respect and appreciation for Native American cultures.

Thoughtful Words provide the paint for the canvas that the illustrator so beautifully filled. This prose was perfect for American natives study at the elementary level in school. Thought provoking.

This is a beautiful night time story. I am looking for high quality books about Native Americans and this is a great one for younger children. It is a beautiful book with a calm and soothing feel to it. Great for a classroom library or bedtime story.

Pictures are great - i collect American Indian lore for kids. Like the book much.a god selection of stories.

I ended up with two of these books. Gave one to my Dine-Hopi friend for her children. She was so glad for it. It helped me with a project I am working on for my portfolio from completing a masters in writing and psychology.

My grandaughter is interested in the constellations -- this book combines information on the constellations with Indian poetry -- it is a lovely tribute to the sky.

I feel like this book could explain more and offer a lot more practice questions, and actually include all of the answers. It only provides the answer for odd problems, what is this, high school? I'm paying for a college course and a college text book, I expect to get all of the information in it.I thought perhaps there would be more practice problems online, but the only thing you can do with the online access is download a pdf. for formulas and tables that are already in the book. The site describes this pdf as:"Students and instructors alike can benefit from this quick reference guide to exploring and describing data, which includes a cheat sheet of need-to-know formulas, as well as several useful tables."and a SSPS or Excel doc of data sets, which the site describes as:"The data sets mentioned throughout the text are available for download in both SPSS (.sav) and Excel (.xls) formats, along with an index of all the sets and their corresponding references in the text."So again, it's exactly what's already in the book. It's completely unnecessary. I bought this book for the access code because I thought it would have more interactive problems and solutions for practice. Wish I would've saved my money.

This is the required textbook for a course, so it wasn't a choice per se. I have a previous background in biostatistics which I find is needed for some of the content. It is a good basic intro text, however, there are times where it seems that it tries to be too basic and in distilling the concepts down, it overlooks the needed links in the processes. I feel that if you don't have a background in biostats then you may need to explore another complimentary text so that you don't feel lost. The text seems to go between conceptual info and actual calculating problems. I would really like a companion exercise book. I am someone who learns best thru doing so it is helpful to know I can apply the concepts.

I rented this book. It has some highlighting, but other than that, I am happy I was able to rent it for a decent price. I like how it contains illustrative examples inside to further explain how to work out problems.

Biostats written in a way that makes it easy to understand. Used this for a grad course, got an A. I would argue this book is the reason it was so easy.

Wore stats book I have ever had or read

Decent book. My only complaint is that the answers in the back are only for odd # questions. There were times I really needed to understand an even numbered exercise, and the solution process was nowhere to be found.

This text jumps around and repeats previously covered subject matter so much that I don't know if I'm coming or going! The first 5 or so chapters are great but after that comes the confusion. Plus, add in all the very unclear SPSS instructions and enter chaos. Didn't care for it at all.

book was advertised as "new" i bought it. but when i got it it is used and the online code was used and now going thru it there are marks in the book.

The 2nd Edition is not as complete as the 1st Edition. It contains a lot of information that is covered in the Introduction to Process Technology book while eliminating important information about hazards, sampling, sampling analysis and other information that should be covered in this course. I hope that Cengage continues to support the first edition as the eliminated information is important for safety, environmental compliance, and efficient operations.
