When Emily manages to hook a corporate sponsorship for school events and a number of the student body protests--led by Jesse--the relationship between the girls becomes more about their differences than about the few things they share.The Difference Between You and Me is a thoughtful, funny, and memorable novel. The story alternates between the Jesse's and Emily's perspectives and although their romantic entanglement is what brings them together, it isn't the focal point of the book. With an excellent balance between humor and gravity, George explores how Jesse and Emily handle standing up and speaking out about their beliefs, how they each deal with conflict, and how far they are willing to go to be themselves. For the protagonists, their reactions to the conflict mirror how they view their sexuality and how much they each value their relationship with each other. George resists putting a label on any person or situation while posing an important question to readers: Is it harder to go with the flow and live with the consequences, or to stand up to stifling ideas and people, no matter the consequences? All of the characters are vibrant and multi-dimensional and the dialogue rings true, making for a smart, humorous, and important book that demands to be read in one sitting

The character voices are great, though you really only get to meet one character for one chapter and never have her point of view after that - so that's kind of pointless. Overall, a heartwarming story but the ending leaves much to be desired. It kind of just...ends. The description of the book implies some huge crossroads turmoil plot point, but it literally just ends, and you kind of sit there like "Oh...I guess that works." Not a bad book by any means and I'd definitely recommend it, but it wasn't great, either.

Finished this in one day, and hoped until the very end they’d end up together. It’s definitely for a high school audience, but was a beautiful love story still.

My daughter read this in school and wanted to have her own copy to reread. She loved it

Good book for younger teens but don't expect too much if you're 16+

I really, really enjoyed this thoughtful, empathetically written coming of age story. Especially loved Jesse's voice.

This is a great coming of age/gay story. I'd say it's best for high schoolers, and for the reading level that's true, but it's also a warm heart pulling story that teaches great lessons for all ages.

Bought this book after reading a glowing review by Malinda Lo but I was underwhelmed by it. I felt that the story didn't fully unfold. It was just okay.

I was more interested in the secondary romance. The heroine was a lot nicer than Sage. I wanted this book so much, waiting for it to be at a good price, and really wanted to read Roak's story. The story itself was written very nicely, but not the characters.Roak deserved someone better than her. Sage was just mean and selfish. I wanted to like her, because I liked her in the previous book. But she was so rude here! I couldn't believe how different she acted. She kept referring to Roak as a "kid", and it annoyed to me to no end, simply because he was 3 years younger than her. He certainly acted a lot more mature than her.Bonnie was a great character, and I wish there could have been a whole book for her romance. She was real, respectful, selfless, and not stuck-up.Also, the ending for this was crappy, like some of the reviewers said. They reunited in less than a page.

This author never disappoints with her western series. I only happened upon this author in the past year and I cannot get enough of her books. Luckily, she has written several. I have enjoyed them all.

I could not wait to read this book. I knew Sage's story would be filled with her wanting her way and fighting with Drum, but I think it went a little over board in that area. She fought with him over everything. And I was tired of her constantly seeing him as a kid the first half of the book. I did enjoy the book and if you have read the others you will want to read this as well. It's a great addition to the series. When Sage finally see's Drum for who he really is, the book starts geting better and better. All in all it was kind of a slow start but is very interesting and ends good. Bonnie and Brad were a nice addition to the book. Texas princess was my favorite, and I was disappointed Tobin was the only brother not in this book. But it was nice to visit Whispering Mountain again, and even hear from Martha:)

If you read Jodi Thomas's books. Read the whole series they are wonderful. You fall in love with her caharacters and don't want to leave them hanging.

This time Safe and Drummond were the story and like in the other books there was lots of excitement, killing, kidnapping a slimy saloon owner, this is a great story.

I got this book and many others by Jodi Thomas; but all of her books are no longer available in print. Have to either get them for kindle or buy them used. Wish I could find one store where I can buy them all in one place! Much prefer that Amazon can sell them besides the kindle version. This and all the books I was able to order arrived quickly and are in great shape! My wife is very excited about this author!

I agree with the one reviewer that gave the book 2 stars. Sage runs hot & cold with a touch of spoiled brat; actually I think Drum could have done better than give his heart to someone so childish. Nurse Bonnie Faye Pierce & Brad Summerfield was the true love story in this book. They were 2 people who had never had much and through adversity and unlikely circumstances came together with a sweet story. I loved the other Whispering Mountain books and this was good also but when Drum risked his life to save Sage from the count and all she did was berate him I thought what an ass; my opinion didn't improve as the story progressed. Teagen should have tanned her hide when she was a kid. I felt for her when she lost Michael Saddler the Ranger she loved but was killed in book 2 that was so sad and how she cared for him. But for this she went away to medical school in Boston and endured the rigors of being a woman in the 1850s wanting to be a doctor, she didn't show much maturity in her dealing with Drum. diamondgirl

I read this book aloud to my 4th and 7th grader as we studied the early 1800s in history this year. It is a beautiful book, full of wonderful details--but at times we found it to be a little dry and monotonous (we were also aiming to read it all in one week, so we trudged through several pages at a time). But the depth of understanding of how mills work and how they influenced the landscape of New England proved to be invaluable! Some of my favorite literature is set in the 1800s and reading this book gave me a deeper understanding of how life was back then. A few weeks after reading Mill, we moved on to the Civil War period and read another wonderful book, Turn Homeward, Hannahlee. The main characters in that story are mill hands, so we felt like we enjoyed that story even more, armed with our new knowledge of life around a mill. Now I'm excited to order and read all of David Macaulay's different architecture books to my kids! This book would also be perfect for high schoolers to enjoy reading on their own--or any child who loves to know how things work in great detail!

All the David Macaulay books are awesome. He is a superb artist and illustrator. You feel like you've traveled in a time machine to the distant past. His books are absolute treasures. The pictures are almost jaw dropping, they are that good. Wish he had written many more, they are real reference works in history and old technologyThis book is an excellent introduction and insight to Project Management. It broadly details the issues of materials, manning, infrastructure, site evaluation and construction. The wonderful drawings of David Macauley makes it feel very real to the reader. It jogs the imagination to include other other items not detailed. This book could serve as an example for teaching the use of Project Management software.

This is a fascinating account of the life and times of a millwright and his trade. Details on choosing a location for the mill, building the mill, and how the machinery to grind the grain worked puts the reader in the position as the millwright himself. This book is written as part history book, part informational, and even part journal, using fictional diary entries to give the reader a sense of the everyday life of a miller. A touch of drama is thrown in as we read of mill-workers who are injured and/or killed while on the job -"1864 August 15: Mary McDonnell was drawn into the machinery by the belting today and lost her right arm below the elbow. I fear the heat will not help her recoveryAugust 17: Mary McDonnell died today, the infection having spread too quickly from her injury. I will send her wages on to her mother in Southbridge."This book is supposedly written for children - I first discovered it in an elementary school library - but I find it more suitable for adults. I have found that many history books geared toward the younger set can have information not found in the more adult-oriented books. The Mill by David Macaulay is one of them. The illustrations themselves are very well done, and the details of running a mill is probably the best I have seen thus far.Great reading about the lifeblood of a 19th century community.

While the fictional story creates the thread by which the development of the mill can be followed, it's the detailed drawings and descriptions that bring a lost industry that once was critical in our early world to life. Macaulay's renderings provide a rich insight into an 18th century mill-- from site planning to the development of the dam and the initial mill works. The growth of the mill is then seen over the decades as it expands and finally falls into disuse as economic conditions contribute to its demise. Anyone who is familiar with the writing and illustrative stories of artist/author Eric Sloane will enjoy this work as well.

Loved this book, because in our grade school introduction to American history, nothing was said about these mills or about their critical part in a developing American economy. I wanted to know the parts of the story that had been omitted, and this was one of the best tellings of what these mills were and who engineered them. This story and all Macaulay's other books will be easy to share with young students some day, and for that, I am truly grateful.

This is an important book. Written for children, it can be used just as effectively by adults to comprehend the beginnings of the industrial revolution in the United States. Learn and see how men tamed our rivers and how men, women and children were swallowed up in these great monuments to progress.The illustrations are remakable. David Macaulay deftly describes and illustrates how the technology that made America a world industrial power came to the young new country and how American ingenuity improved it and made the nation into a world class economic juggernaut.The author is a superb story teller, and anyone who would like to visualize the nature of mills and to understand the profound impact of this technology on our country should read it.I highly recommend this great children's book to everyone.

I bought this for my son, who has always been intrigued by construction projects, but I have also enjoyed it quite a bit and learned a lot from it. One point I would make is that it is not quite as simple as some of Macaulay's other books, such as Castle and Cathedral. Whereas those books are easy for even a four-year-old to comprehend, Mill has a more involved story-line and will require more explaining from a parent. I would say that ideally it should be for older children for that reason. But, that doesn't change the fact that it's a great book, and of course the illustrations are amazing.

This is a great bible study. I've done it with my grad school friends and I've loved the way it's made me look at myself, the world, and my relationship with God. Thank you Hannah Duggan!! She also has a leader's guide on her website for free that I've found very helpful.

Great book to start a bible study class :)

This book was a great short term devotional. It really made me dive deeper into what I’ve been feeling about my future!

We used this book for my Young Adult bible study. This book helped answer my prayers. Whenever I had a feeling in my heart, a worry, or an issue: God answered me through this book! I remember reading each chapter a week during bible study and thinking, "THIS IS GOD ANSWERING MY PRAYERS." And I've been able to not only use this book for myself, but share it with my friends who ponder similar questions: "What am I doing with my life? What's my purpose? When will I get a Godly man?"Such a great book to start off a young adult bible study. I would recommend to anyone and everyone!!

As a youth leader and teen/young adult mentor I am always looking for resources that will encourage and inspire this age group. Hannah Duggan's What Now? is fresh, funny and challenging. It takes you not just on a journey to find God's will, but to find God Himself. I highly recommend this book to teens, young adults, youth leaders and anyone who is truly seeking God.

This is a total "Glory Nugget." We are reading it in our youth group and it is such a great read with such Godly wisdom. Thank you Hannah!
